Support for future versions of Exchange Server
The initial purchase of Outlook Help Desk includes free support for 30 days. After the initial 30-day period, support calls are $95/incident unless you have an Annual Support Contract.
Support for Future Versions of Exchange
We fully intend to keep the Help Desk/Service Desk applications current with the latest Microsoft technologies, while also providing legacy support as needed. Exchange Server 2007 continues continue to fully support public folders while providing additional new management and functionality features. In addition, Microsoft has committed to supporting public folders until 2016 or later.
See this Microsoft Exchange Team posting:
Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007 "include public folder support – with great new investments in manageability and improved storage costs. Both of these products will be fully supported for 10 years from the availability of E12 [Exchange 2007] – through at least 2016. You can continue to use Public Folders with full support throughout this time."
Meanwhile, Microsoft is providing a long-range view where they "de-emphasize" public folders. According to Microsoft, public folders may not be in the next major release after Exchange 2007. That being said, Microsoft again affirmed their commitment to fully support public folders through at least 2016.
With this in mind, we will be migrating our solutions off public folders in due time so as to accord with Microsoft’s intention to eventually move to a Sharepoint/.Net model for collaboration. Our 2007 releases will continue to use public folders, since they are fully supported in both Exchange and Outlook 2007. Our future releases after 2007 will move to the new collaboration models that Microsoft is developing. We plan to be right in tune with Microsoft as they make their move and we will be providing migration paths and tools as necessary to do that.
Note that our Annual Support Contracts provide a way to ensure that your use of Outlook Help Desk continues to receive updates, upgrades, and support as needed during this period of transition. Details on these contracts are at Support Contracts.
